For Philip Guston is a major work by the US composer Morton Feldman, written in 1984 in honor of his friend, the artist Philip Guston. Like many of his compositions, it is particularly long: four and a half hours of music, without pause, without stop, in one movement.

Feldman’s work focuses on listening to sound. Sound for its own sake, for what it produces in our ears, in our bodies, in our heads. The result is a unique experience, for listeners and musicians alike, an experience of time and letting go, of being in the present, in the very instant of sound vibrations.

To meet the extreme demands of the score - combined with the complexity of the organization - Ensemble Vide has brought together, around the artistic director, three virtuoso musicians who collaborate with an artist, an architect and a lighting designer. Together, they conceive the venue, the sound, the listening spaces and the possibilities of scenic arrangements.

The artist, architect and lighting designer think space with sound, the musicians think sound with space. The audience experiences the coming together of two sensitive worlds, visual and auditory.
