Framing
On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of theOrchestre de Chambre de Genève.
Framing is a rhythmic construction for a gamelan-type instrument made from various metal tubes. It is written for two percussionists. The composition is open-ended, leaving the performers free to manipulate the content, create new forms and invent new possibilities. As a proposition, there is no real beginning or end. Framing is an instant, an imprecise time. A version with two wind instruments is an option, adding long resonances to the percussive sounds.
The instrument is installed in the foyer of the Bâtiment des Forces motrices, the project being proposed by Ensemble Vide at the invitation of the Orchestre de chambre de Genève, celebrating its 30th anniversary. With free access between fixed-hour activations, the public can take hold of the instrumental device to give free rein to their imagination, and experiment hands-on with textures and sounds, without constraints, echoing the total freedom of form imagined by the piece.
