Joan La Barbara is a leading figure in contemporary music: a pioneer of vocal experimentation, she has been the interpreter of choice for major avant-garde figures such as John Cage, Philip Glass, Morton Feldman and Steve Reich. A vocal virtuoso, she began composing in the 1970s, exploring polyphony, circular breathing and breath techniques, developing a vast vocal vocabulary. Electronics also played an important role in her work as a composer, exploiting from the outset the possibilities of magnetic tape and computers, sampling and recording, and live electronics. She also writes for vocal and instrumental ensembles.

Inviting La Barbara for a concert in the Arcoop building is an exceptional opportunity to hear this major artist who, at 77, continues to perform. Her voice will explore every nook and cranny of this jewel of industrial architecture, offering Swiss audiences an unparalleled experience, in a scenography imagined for the occasion by young Swiss-Malagasy artist Jessy Razafimandimby.
