Up until the beginning of the 20th century, as you passed through the streets of Paris, you could hear street vendors offering their services. Each trade had its own distinctive cry. Today, in an industrial building, these exclamations are brought back to life in chorus, with an interpretation by the Ensemble vocal de Poche and the Ensemble vocal Séquence of the composition by Clément Janequin (1485-1558) that immortalized them.

Of course, Les Cris is also the world of childhood and movement. The Choir of the Conservatoire Populaire de Musique, Danse et Théâtre reminds us that singing and the voice come first. With Baroque works by Purcell and Scarlatti among others, the mix of generations is a poetic proposition, encouraging us to consider music in an organic way.

The movements of the singers in the space, highlighting the compositions, also become vectors of internal movements, permuting the determined directions and, who knows, perhaps making us fall back into childhood.

In counterpoint, a work by Japanese composer Karen Tanaka lets us smell the aromatic herbs of the garden, while Geneva-based composer Denis Schuler proposes a piece for two women’s voices, based on excerpts from Virginia Woolf’s novel Mrs. Dalloway.
