Sofia Gubaïdulina (1931-2025) wrote these Seven Words in 1982. Although she doesn’t use the voice, she translates the words of Christ on the Cross with accordion, cello and string orchestra. A masterly work of slow music, performed by soloists Simão Alcoforado-Barreira and Stéphane Chapuis, accompanied by the Ensemble contemporain de la HEM.

Extended sonorities and friction unfold for over thirty minutes, invading the space and resonating, surrounded and enveloped by a scenographic proposal by Sonia Kacem and Juliette Roduit. The artist and designer’s lacy work transforms the perception of the space, playing on the visible and the hidden, and engaging us in an intimate relationship with the music.
